Queensland fans have rushed to buy tickets for the opening Test of the British & Irish Lions series after Australian Rugby Union launched its first major pre-sale opportunity today.

A substantial allocation of tickets to the Lions clash with the Qantas Wallabies at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday, June 22, went on sale at midday local time, to members of the Rugby Community.

The allocation was exhausted within hours – almost two weeks before tickets officially go on sale to the General Public from 9:00am on Monday, 18 February.

ARU CEO, Bill Pulver, urged sports fans not to delay when General Public sales open, with demand for a Tour that has been “12 Years in the Making” highlighted by today’s result.

“Tickets will not last long, so I encourage those people who want to be there when the series opens in Brisbane, or to attend the Tests in Melbourne and Sydney, to act quickly on Monday week,” he said.

“ARU is delighted by the response of the Rugby Community to the Tests in all three cities, while sales have also been strong across the matches the Lions will play against the five Australian Super Rugby teams and a Combined NSW-Queensland Country.

“The magnitude of this tour speaks for itself. The Lions have not visited Australia since 2001 and they will bring with them a vocal and passionate supporter base.

“It will be a Tour and a series to remember. Nine matches across six cities. Even four months out from the opening match, the interest is extremely high as evidenced by today’s move on tickets.”
