RugbyCONNECT

The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) has recently commitment to engage in the Sports CONNECT program with the Australian Sports Commission (ASC). A key element of Sports CONNECT involves sports organisations working towards the common goal of making sport more inclusive of people with disabilities.

This is a great opportunity for Australian Rugby to increase participation in our game, both on and off the field, with the assistance of the ASC. The ARU will work with State/Territory Unions and Rugby Clubs to investigate the opportunities for inclusion of participants with a disability in all aspects of the game, from administration/volunteers to coaching/playing. Further, there is also an opportunity to develop our EdRugby schools program and make it more inclusive of schools with special needs.

Over the next 12 months the ARU will be working to develop a Disability Action Plan, which will aim to address the key areas of development, participation and competition through Coach Education, Competition, Club Development, and Classification.

As part of this process, the ARU will be conducting a National Audit. If you are a member of a Rugby Club or Association we encourage you to take part in the Survey below. This information will be used as part of our National Audit on the inclusion of people with a disability in the game of Rugby Union, and help shape the ARU Disability Action Plan.
