New Zealand Rugby has wasted no time in locking down superstar flyhalf Beauden Barrett after a 14th-straight Bledisloe Cup win, extending his contract until 2019.

The move will surprise few after Barrett's impressive form in the trans-Tasman series, off the back of a title-winning Super Rugby season with the Hurricanes.

The 25-year-old was man of the match in the opening Bledisloe in Sydney, before helping to heap on the pain in front of goal in Wellington.

Barrett warned there would be plenty more to come from him, after his breakout year.

"I love playing for the All Blacks and representing my country in the black jersey and I'm loving my footy at the moment", he said.

"I'm looking forward to playing my role and adding my small part to the legacy over the next few years."

Barrett's trophy cabinet is filling up this season, after he steered Wellington to its first Super Rugby title, in a finals series that cemented his position at the top of New Zealand's playmaking pecking order.

Hurricanes head coach Chris Boyd said he was delighted to have Barrett back and he would play a vital role in the coming years for the side.

"He's been a big part of our success over the past two seasons and has developed into a real leader, both on and off the field," he said.

"It's an exciting time for the club and there's no doubt Beauden's a big part of our plans in the coming seasons."

Barrett has also signed with provincial side, Taranaki, as part of the new deal.

The All Blacks will continue their Rugby Championship campaign against Argentina, hosting Los Pumas in Hamilton on September 10.
