Just in case the NSW Country Eagles and Western Sydney Rams needed any more motivation this weekend, they will be playing for a new piece of silverware.
The Benn Robinson Bell will be up for grabs each time the three NSW teams go head-to-head during the regular rounds of the Buildcorp NRC tournament.
Robinson played 148 games for the Waratahs before being forced to retire with an eye injury this year and is an example of the NSW rugby pathway system from schoolboys through to Wallabies.
“I am really proud to have the very first NSW Buildcorp NRC trophy named after me,” Robinson said.
“The Eagles, Rays and Rams have been playing fantastically this season, producing some really exciting rugby. Together they showcase the cross-section of rugby talent in this state, with some standout players coming through.
“There’s nothing better than a derby clash, especially when it’s between the west, city and country. Having the bell to play for will only up the ante in the competiveness of these clashes.
“I am looking forward to seeing which team will be the first to earn the right to ring the bell for the very first time this Saturday.”
The winner of the Bell will be determined by the results of fixtures played between the three NSW sides and not top position on the ladder.
This weekend’s fixture now has two trophies up for grabs with the Horan-Little Shield also on the line at Concord Oval.
