The Brumbies have move to lock in two of their props, re-signing Nic Mayhew and Leslie Leulua’iali’i-Makin for the 2018 season.

Former Blues prop Mayhew has been impressive since making the switch to the Canberra club, in an intimidating Brumbies front row group.

Makin made the jump into Super Rugby in 2015 after a standout NRC season, completing his journey through the ACT pathway, having featured in representative teams all the way through.

Mayhew said he has settled into the Canberra life in his debut season, happy to have another year to play.

“I have enjoyed a wonderful first season in Canberra and I am extremely pleased to be able to sign for a further year,” he commented.

“The Brumbies is a great place to play Super Rugby and everyone involved has made me feel very welcome from the first day I arrived at the club from the Blues.

“The atmosphere in the squad is outstanding, and the coaching and support staff are first rate and I am excited to be able to help the Brumbies try and achieve our goals for the 2018 Super Rugby season.”

“As a Canberra boy the Brumbies have always been my club and to get the opportunity to run out at GIO Stadium in the Brumbies colours was a dream come true,” Leulua’iali’i-Makin said.

“To be able to extend my stay with the club is great news. This team has a special bond and we have a lot of quality in the ranks, as well as some highly promising youngsters coming through.

“I am really looking forward to being able to continue to play in front of the loyal and passionate Brumbies supporters.”

Brumbies CEO Michael Thomson said the pair’s retention was a boon for the club.

“It’s great news that we have managed to secure the signatures of Les and Nic,” Thomson said.

“Les is the perfect example of a young and talented local product who has taken his chance at the highest level. His performances have been excellent and he has the potential to go even further.

“Nic has made a huge impression on everyone in the organisation since his arrival from New Zealand, making a seamless transition into the playing group and settling in well. We are delighted to have him sign on for a further year.
