Australia faced off against Oceania at day three of the Oceania Sevens at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

Aussies Men Sevens coach Tim Walsh is confident his team will bounce back after their shock 29-19 defeat against Argentina.

A slow start cost Australia in their opening match, conceding four first-half tries as Los Pumas raced out to a 24-0 half-time lead.

Despite a late surge thanks to Josh Turner and Samu Kerevi, they were unable to pull off the incredible comeback as Argentina raced away with victory.

Walsh lamented their poor start and lack of control at restart time as they gave the ball away on three separate occasions.

“We’re hurting,” Walsh said after the loss.

“Obviously we would’ve preferred to get a win on the first one but we didn’t win the restarts which are a key area so they just starved us of the ball.

“If you look at it, they won three restarts and on defence, we were in a good position but we just didn’t finish it and win that physical battle.”

The loss all but ensures Australia must win their final two games against Korea and New Zealand if they wish to qualify in the top two.

If not, a date with Fiji or an NZ rematch awaits if they qualify as the two highest-placed third-place finishes.

Despite this, Walsh and the side remained confident as they continue to control their own destiny.

“(The feeling) is pretty low,” he admitted. “We’ve put our hearts and soul into this and all of us have. But you can't deny them of that hurt, you have to let them feel that for a bit but they’ve been here before.

"It’s a tournament and we have a few more games that we hold the destiny to so if we win the next two, we’re in a quarter-final.

“It’s all ahead of us and we just have to recover and get pumped for Korea.

"It’d come down to for and against now and we don’t to be reliant on that situation so we’re just going to concentrate on the next one and then the one after that and let the outcome take care of itself.

“We’re certainly not out of it.”
