Capped Wallaby Henry Speight is set to make his long awaited return to the 15-man format for the UC Vikings in the National Rugby Championship.

The 28-year-old hasn’t played the traditional format since injuring himself back in round four of the Super Rugby season after a sickening head clash left him with a fractured bone above his eye.

Upon recovering the Fijian-flyer focused on making the Olympics and is currently in Rio as a reserve for the Australian team.

A number of Brumbies and Wallabies feature in the 36-man squad which will be mentored by new head coach Wayne Southwell.

The Vikings were runners-up in the 2015 season of the NRC, director of rugby and Brumbies assistant coach Dan McKellar is confident the team can go one step further this year.

“Our goal is to win the competition and I think our squad is definitely capable of achieving that benchmark,” he said.

The UC Vikings season gets underway against Queensland Country on August 28 at Bond University.
