Australia's women's Sevens took out another title on home soil last weekend, winning the Super 7s invitational tournament over Fiji, 24-10.

Their squad included a handful of topliners including Charlotte Caslick, Shannon Parry, Evania Pelite, Cassie Staples, Georgie Friedrichs and Dom du Toit backing up from Sydney, as well as a group of development players.

The Aussies were tested by Fiji in the final, but bested their Pacific neighbours to take out the inaugural title at Wests rugby club in Brisbane.

Fiji scored first in the final putting the Aussies on the back foot in the opening minutes before Cassie Staples replied with a long-range try just a minute later.

Another five-pointer, to Mahalia Murphy, on the stroke of half-time, put the home side on the front foot at the break.

Tries to Pelite and Murphy sealed the game for the Aussies, though Fiji managed a consolation try late in the match.

A number of international teams stayed after the Sydney 7s to take part in the tournament and a third-placed South African side came out specifically to take part.

Australia's women next play at the Commonwealth Games, in April, before the Kitakyushu leg of the World Series a week later.

The Aussies are currently on top of the World Series, leading New Zealand, after winning their opening two tournaments of the season.

RESULT

Australia 24

Tries: Murphy 2, Staples, Pelite

Cons: Pelite 2
