Leinster stars Johnny Sexton and Tadhg Furlong were brought out to Australia, but Ireland coach Joe Schmidt has left them out of the starting side in Brisbane.

Rumours swirled in the lead-up to their squad announcement that Schmidt was going to leave a host of his top names in Ireland, but instead the Kiwi has opted to ease them into the series, after a long European and Pro14 season.

Though that pair are on the bench, this is by no means a depleted Ireland side.

Ten-cap flyhalf Joey Carbery will start ahead of Sexton in the Brisbane Test, teaming up with the experienced Conor Murray in the halves, while John Ryan will play his 14th Test, in the starting tighthead spot.

Flanker Peter O'Mahony will captain the team in place of the injured Rory Best, who has already been ruled out of the series with a hamstring injury.

The Wallabies named their team earlier on Thursday afternoon, with three debutants in the mix.

The Wallabies take on Ireland in a three-Test June Series, kicking off on Saturday June 9 at 8pm AEST, LIVE on FOX SPORTS and via RUGBY.com.au RADIO. Buy tickets here.
