Kemu Valetini ices the game in overtime for the Drua in Round 5 of Super Rugby Pacific 2024

Tane Edmed had a chance to win the game with a dropkick from right in front, only to see it skew off the boot and hit the right upright.

Kemu Valetini made no mistake with his efforts minute later to send the Laukota crowd crazy.

The Waratahs looked up for the challenge early when a slick lineout move got Mahe Vailanu over for the opener.

Their 10-0 lead was short lived as Iosefo Masi brutalised their defence in a stunning turn of form.

Masi crossed in the 14th minute as he beat the Waratahs defence close to the line before Frank Lomani shimmed over off a fast lineout move for the lead.

The Olympic gold medalist scored twice in four minutes as the hosts took a 26-10 lead into the break.

The visitors started the second half down a man thanks to a deliberate knock down from Mark Nawaqanitawase but it didn’t deter them as Charlie Gamble went over untouched.

The Drua responded via Tevita Ikanivere, only for Joe Walton’s five pointed resorting their hopes of a comeback.

As the game entered the final quarter, the hosts were yellow carded when Kitione Salawa wore the brunt for repeated infringements.

This inspired the 'Tahs as Vailanu and Lachie Swinton crossed within four minutes of each other to level the scores to set up a thrilling finish.

Selestino Ravutaumunda and Armstrong-Ravula looked to have stolen it for the Drua on the siren but a magical Edmed ankle-tap saved the day and sent it to golden point.

The game was set up for the Waratahs to take it when reserve Drua halfback Peni Matawalu was sin binned for a brain explosion.

They rumbled down the field and gave Edmed a shot to win the game from right in front, but the strike was wayward, hitting the right upright under the crossbar.

Valetini made no mistakes with his chance two minutes later under penalty advantage, stepping into the kick and drilling it.

It’s the third straight defeat for the Waratahs by a margin of three or less.
