Drew Mitchell's rugby retirement has been short-lived, with the winger named as NSW's Brisbane Tens wildcard.

Mitchell's announcement follows the unveiling of legendary tighthead Carl Hayman for French side Pau, as the squads begin to filter in for the second truncated tournament.

The former Wallaby will be balancing his playing commitments with commentating commitments for Fox Sports at the Queensland competition, after playing for Toulon in the first year.

Drew Mitchell is heading into retirement after Monday's final. Mitchell announced his retirement last season, playing his final professional game for Toulon in the French Top 14 final, but featured in a Classic Wallabies match against a Barbarians side in October last year.

The 33-year-old joins Hayman and Carlos Spencer (Blues) as the wildcards announced so far, while the Waratahs are yet to confirm their entire squad.

The Waratahs are up against the Chiefs, Highlanders and Pau in the Brisbane Tens pool stages.
