In a nod to his leadership potential, Samu Kerevi has been handed the captaincy for the Reds in this year's Brisbane Tens.

Brad Thorn's Reds will be one of the youngest teams in Super Rugby and his Brisbane Tens side will be no different, naming 11 uncapped players in the squad for the tournament.

There is a dash of experience in the 26-man squad with James Slipper, Samu Kerevi and Kane Douglas all named but it is an otherwise youthful group that is the first sneak peek at what the Thorn era Reds may look like come round one.

Kerevi will skipper the side, a nod to his standing within the group.

"The Tens provides a good opportunity for the players to put into action what they’ve worked on throughout the pre-season," Thorn said.

"Last year’s tournament was fast and physical and provided a good challenge a couple of weeks out from the season. No doubt the guys are looking forward to getting out there in front of our home fans."

Queensland have also announced the women that will take part in a new format at this year's tournament, advancing from the three match QLD-NSW series that took place last year.

The 18-woman squad features nine Wallaroos, as head coach Michael Hayes prepares his side for the inaugural Super W competition.

The Brisbane Tens kick off at Suncorp Stadium on Friday, February 9. Buy tickets here.
