Damon Murphy has joined the growing ranks of ex-professional players in the refereeing world after being added to the Super Rugby list for 2019.

Murphy has been a regular in NRC and the Sevens circuit in recent years but this is his first appointment in Super Rugby.

The former Aussie Sevens player joins fellow Australians Nic Berry and Angus Gardner in the Super Rugby ranks.

Will Houston has dropped out of a reduced 15-man squad, along with Japanese referee Shuhei Kubo and Jamie Nutbrown.

This year's group has dropped from 17 to 15 in the wake of SANZAAR's recent review of refereeing systems.

The first round of Super Rugby kicks off on Friday February 15.
