The Queensland Rugby Union has today confirmed the 2024 Queensland Premier Rugby draw with the nine men’s and women’s Premier Rugby clubs set to start their premiership campaigns earlier than last season in a more aligned format.
Next year’s StoreLocal Hospital Cup, Premier Women’s competition and lower QPR grades will commence on Saturday April 6, with teams playing 18 regular season rounds before a three-week finals series culminating in the respective Grand Finals set for the weekend of August 31 to September 1.
Round 1 of the 2024 season will see Bond University host Sunnybank in a replay of this year’s QPR Women’s Grand Final, while Wests host University of Queensland, Souths and Norths face off at Chipsy Wood Oval and GPS play Easts at Yoku Road.
This year’s Hospital Cup runners-up will have to wait until Round 7 to get their chance at redemption when the Bulldogs host 2023 premiers Brothers at SciFleet Stadium.
Next season will also see the Queensland Premier Rugby competition host Indigenous Round across all grades in Round 14.
Queensland Rugby’s General Manager – Community Rugby Gaven Head said: “We’ve been working with our nine QPR clubs and broadcast partners to provide our communities and supporters the best opportunity to watch Rugby in Queensland.
“Starting the competition in April means our season is better aligned to the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season with more players filtering back to play with their club in the back end of the year.
“We saw in 2023 the competitiveness between teams on the field creates a great profile for the competition across every grade and we anticipate a similar level of competition this season.”
All StoreLocal Hospital Cup games throughout 2024 will again be broadcast live and on demand via Stan Sport, with select matches at the backend of the season and the finals series to also be broadcast LIVE via 9Gem.
