Former Wallabies captain Will Skelton has dominated headlines in the Top 14, leading to a remarkable outburst from La Rochelle coach Ronan O’Gara.
Skelton was sent off after 20 minutes for a high cleanout on Romain Briatte in a ruck.
It led to a massive blow up from the Irish great, with the side slumping to their sixth straight loss.
“In rugby, you have the right to clean up a ruck. Unfortunately, today, we are at the Parc des Princes and we saw Neymar,” O’Gara said post match.
“It’s a dark day for rugby. To give a red card for that? I’m not trying to protect Will because it’s not good, but a rugby player who does that, it’s quite an interesting gesture.”
In non-red card related news, Folau Fainga’a crossed in Clermont’s 31-18 defeat to Bayonne.
It’s Fainga’a’s fourth try of the year, with Irae Simone also starting in the defeat.
Pete Samu started at number eight in Bordeaux’s 29-17 win over Perpignan, maintaining their top two ladder spot.
In the Pro D2, Caleb Time helped Colomiers to a narrow 20-19 win over Brive whilst Joe Powell came off the bench in Montauban’s 36-28 victory over Izack Rodda and Provence.
Will Genia and Quade Cooper’s tries have been unable to inspire Kintetsu Liners to victory after a last minute try.
With the Liners trailing by 10 before the break, Genia darted over for the five-pointer, converted by Will Harrison.
Cooper gave them the lead after the break before two late tries in the last six minutes gave Shimizu Koto Blue Sharks the win.
Meanwhile, in the top division, Wallabies Bernard Foley and Samu Kerevi were each yellow-carded in defeats.
Kerevi's second card for a dangerous tackle in three weeks came during bottom-placed Urayasu D-Rocks' nail-biting 36-31 defeat by Steve Hansen's Verblitz.
Foley was sent to the sidelines for his team's repeated infringing as the third-placed Spears Funabashi Tokyo Bay fell short in a 31-27 loss to Brave Lupus Tokyo.
Liam Gill had a big performance for BlackRams Tokyo in their win over Mitsubishi Sagamihara Dynaboars.
Gill had two line breaks, five tackle busts, two turnovers and a try assist in the 22-7 win.
Playmaker Jack Walsh has proved the hero in the battle of the Aussies, kicking the winning penalty in Ospreys’ 32-31 win over Glasgow.
Walsh nailed an 81st-minute penalty to snatch victory over Sam Talakai’s side after kicking a 75h minute conversion to give them the lead.
"The boys put in a shift so I really didn't want to let them down," Walsh said post-match.
"We came up here knowing Glasgow are a class outfit and I can't remember the last time they've lost at home so we said we knew we had to be in for every minute and that showed."
Meanwhile, Talakai provided a solid impact off the bench, making a perfect seven-from-seven tackles and drawing a key scrum penalty that set up what looked to be the game-winning try.
In other results, Max Douglas started in Scarlets’ defeat to Ulster whilst Steve Cummins came off the bench for Dragons as they went down to Zebra 31-21
A hat-trick to James Ramm wasn’t enough for Northampton as they went down 43-26 to Jordy Reid and Championship side Ealing in the quarter-finals.
Ramm got the Saints back in the contest with two tries in 12 minutes before they were blown away in a surprise upset.
The former Waratah completed his hat-trick with six minutes to go, however, it was not enough to stop a rampaging Trailfinders as they advance to the semi-finals to face Scott Sio’s Exeter.
The prop started for the Chiefs as they thumped Sale 50-14.
