With the Premiership on break, attention turned to the Premiership Rugby Cup with Aussie Jordy Reid helping Ealing Trailfinders to a big upset over Saracens.
Reid scored late for the Championship side in the 50-29 win over Saracens, currently ranked fifth in the top division competition.
Prop Scott Sio also was impressive for Exeter, who defeated Hartpury 36-16.
Angus Scott-Young and James Ramm started for Northampton as they went down 54-33 to Michael Cheika’s Leicester.

Lock Harry Hockings had a big game as Tokyo Sungoliath took down Shizuoka BlueRevs 33-14.
Hockings scored a try to go with a try assist, four offloads, two turnovers and a perfect 18 from 18 tackles in the victory.
Flanker Sean McMahon was also strong with a team high 19 tackles and three offloads.
In other games in Rugby League One, Matt Philip helped Yokohama to a 24-20 win over Toyota Verblitz.
He led the team for carries (13) and recorded a monster seven dominant tackles.
Samu Kerevi was strong in defeat for Urayasu D-Rocks with a pair of line breaks and nine tackle busts in defeat to Saitama Wild Knights.
It was Kerevi’s first game back in the new year, whilst fellow Wallaby Marika Koroibete is expected back imminently for the Wild Knights.
In Division Two, Rory Arnold scored as Hino Red Dolphins defeated Kamaishi Seawaves 46-35 whilst Will Harrison scored 16 points in Kintetsu’s 31-19 win over Green Rockets Tokatsu
