The placing furthers their hopes of automatic qualifcation for the Olympics, with currently the top five secured a spot at next year's event in Paris

They started the tournament with a convincing win over nearest rivals South Africa, who finished 11th after a shock loss to Spain, before going down to New Zealand.

The All Black Sevens stunned the Aussies early, scoring inside the first 30 seconds before crossing minutes later as Sione Molia scored a quick double.
A great flick pass from Henry Paterson put Nathan Lawson into space for the response, answered instantly by the Kiwis for a 19-7 lead at the break.
Lawson got his second after crawling his way over from the 5 metre line out with two minutes remaining, however the Kiwis were too strong as Lewis Ormond sealed the win

Josh Turner got the Aussies off to a perfect start, combining with Dietrich Roache for the opener.
Darby Lancaster burst away to instantly extend the lead, scoring twice as the Australians dominated the first half to take a 22-0 lead.
Dietrich Roache danced through the defence to continue the dominance after the break. Max Burey’s flick then found Nathan Lawson for his fourth try of the tournament.

Australia has been eliminated by Argentina 29-12 in the quarter-finals.
Argentina dominated the opening minutes of the game, scoring two quick tries as they controlled the restart game.
Henry Paterson once agains stepped up when needed, reducing the margin after a great break from Dietrich Roache. Marcos Moneta had an instant response, grabbing his second to give Argentina a 10 point lead at the break.
Matías Osadczuk extend the lead after the break before Rodrigo Isgro sealed the win.
Matt Gonzalez scored late for the Aussies but it was too little, too late as they will fight for 5th, facing Uruguay in the semi-finals

Darby Lancaster lit the field up, dancing through the defence for the first try inside 90 seconds.
Uruguay then produced some magic to hit straight back, answered by two quick tries to Matt Gonzalez and Tim Clements to give the Aussies a 12-point lead.
Maurice Longbottom provided energy off the bench with a nice five-pointer after Uruguay reduced the margin to seven following a fortuitous bounce.

Australia has secured a crucial fifth place finish in Singapore with a 24-21 win over Great Britain.
Hayden Sargeant opened the scoring for the Aussies after a nicely work move back on the inside.
Dietrich Roache then stepped pass the defence for his 49th try on the World Series, answered by GB well after the half-time siren.
Roache turned provided to set up Darby Lancaster with the perfect offload.
Freddick Roddick reduced the margin for Great Britain before Lancaster’s second, an individual piece of brilliance, secured the win for the Aussies.
