A host of Australian Sevens players are set to play in the second round of the AON Next Gen Sevens, headlined by World Player of the Year Charlotte Caslick and fellow leader Madison Ashby.

After their quarter-final exit in Sydney, most of the squad will head to Narrabri for valuable game time before the World Series returns in Vancouver at the start of March.

Caslick's inclusion adds to a stacked Queensland team looking to extend their lead at the top of the competition after taking the opening round on the Gold Coast.

The Sevens co-captain is joined by fellow Sevens stars Lily Dick and Teagan Levi.

Leading try-scorer Kaitlin Shave has also been included alongside recent Sevens debutants Isabella Nasser and Faythe Manera.

“As a squad we’re lucky to bring back some experienced players and Queensland Academy of Sport graduates who have been performing on the World stage for Australia," Reds coach Reg Taylor said.

“This weekend our aspiring players will be able to line-up alongside the likes of Charlotte Caslick, Lily Dick and Teagan Levi, which will be invaluable for them as they continue to develop individually as well as in a team environment.

"I'm so excited for this weekend in Narrabri. Although it will be my first time playing the Santos Festival of Rugby, it will be great to return to the familiar Next Gen stage, working with the developing players and seeing what they can do," Caslick added.

"Having the opportunity to pull the Maroon jersey on again and represent my home state is really special, and I'm looking forward to taking part in the great state rivalry between New South Wales and Queensland."

As for NSW, Madison Ashby provides vital experience to the youthful squad eager to build off their opening round.

Ashby is one of four Triple Crown winners in the squad with Faith Nathan, Sariah Paki and Tia Hinds named in the team.

Queensland will open the tournament against NSW before facing the Rising Stars later on day one.

The Rising Stars are out for the first win over the competition, looking to build off their pair of draws to finish round one.

It will be played as part of the Santos Rugby Festival in Narrabri, which will also host Super W and Super Rugby Pacific trials between the NSW Waratahs and Queensland Reds
