Hunter Paisami huge hit and turnover

Wallabies centre Hunter Paisami has re-signed with the Queensland Reds and Rugby Australia until the end of 2023.

Since his Reds debut in 2020, Paisami has established himself as a mainstay of Queensland's backline, helping them to a Super Rugby AU title in 2021 despite missing the Final due to a facial fracture.

He has continued this form into the international stage, featuring in nine of the Wallabies Tests in 2021.

The 23-year-old was eager to re-sign as he looks to build off his 15 appearances in gold ahead of the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

“It’s an honour to have re-signed with the Reds and Australian Rugby," Paisami said in a statement.

“I’m really excited to be a part of this team and where this team can go in the future.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time in Queensland so far and I’m really happy to stay here with my young family for at least the next two years.”

Wallabies coach Dave Rennie was equally pleased to lock down Paisami for the immediate future, having selected the 23-year-old at inside centre in the final four Tests of 2021.

"We're really pleased that Hunter has re-committed to the Wallabies and to Queensland for at least the next two years," Rennie said.

"He's a good young man with an impressive skill set who's only going to improve and that's really exciting for Reds and Wallabies supporters.

"His brutal defence and incisive carries were a feature on the end of year tour where he played his best footy in Wallaby gold."

This was shared by Queensland Rugby GM of Professional Rugby Sam Cordingley, who praised his commitment to stay at the club whilst knocking back 'a lot of overseas interest.'

“Despite a lot of overseas interest, Hunter has chosen to stay in Queensland which is great for the Reds and Wallabies leading in 2023," he added.

“Hunter’s growth since joining the Reds has been exponential. It’s exciting to think that he has only been professional for two seasons.

“He’s an extremely tough individual and he has become a key part of our game since joining the club.

“It’s great that his family has settled up here in Queensland and Hunter now has a young family of his own.”
