Translated from its native Italian root, the name "Massimo" means the 'biggest' or 'greatest'.

It's a fitting title for the 188cm, 126kg, gym record-smashing sensation turning heads at Ballymore this week.

Massimo De Lutiis, 20, is highly rated north of the Tweed as a rising tight head prop who's cut his teeth with Australia U20 and Easts Tigers in Queensland's Hospital Cup

De Lutiis' strength is also renown with the youngster spiking online after Reds media shared footage of his 202.5kg unassisted bench press back in April.

But a surprise call-up to this week's Wallabies hub with Reds and Force players could well see De Lutiis' star shine outside the gym come this year's Spring Tour.

"I'm pretty happy about it, just trying to take in as much learning as possible, especially from the experienced boys and then throw my hat in the ring where I can," De Lutiis told reporters of his surprise inclusion.

"It was on my radar but I wasn't expecting anything. I didn't feel like I need to make this but obviously I'm putting as much work in as possible.

"You can't just go out there and bench press, you have to transfer it to the field. You can't just lift big numbers and expect to win out there."

Thursday's press conference capped a whirlwind morning after Wallabies training and commitments after earlier announcing his extension with Queensland through 2026.

Though he's still uncapped at Super level, De Lutiis boasts three Reds appearances against Saitama Wild Knights, Wales and Tonga and trained alongside fellow Reds tighthead props Zane Nongorr under the watchful eye of scrum guru Mike Cron.

Ryan Smith, Harry McLaughlin-Phillips, Tim Ryan, John Bryant, Joe Brial and Lachie Anderson were also among the uncapped players training under Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt.

"I've learnt it's a lot faster than club and Super rugby (but) definitely learning from the people in my position like Zane Nonggorr, especially having that school bond and asking him stuff about scrums and coming up through the ranks and what it was like for him," De Lutiis said.

"I talked with Mike Cron beforehand and talking scrum-wise, he's watched a couple videos of mine and started teaching me a couple of techniques, just tweaking a few little things.

"The future looks bright (at Queensland). Obviously all those boys are soaking up as much knowledge as they can and hopefully bring it back to the Reds."

Reds teammate and Wallabies centre Hunter Paiami was full of praise for De Lutiis, singling out his work to rehabilitate a quad injury that derailed much of his 2024 season.

"Guys like Mas, I’ve watched him train the house down and he works his arse off," Paisami told reporters.

"When that opportunity comes for him, I know he’ll take it."

A healthy Western Force crowd also featured at Ballymore on Thursday with the likes of uncapped trio Tom Horton, Harry Potter and Harry Hoopert among their 12-strong contingent.

Touring squads for both the Wallabies and Australia XV are expected to be released next Tuesday 22 October.
