Match Report - Strong victory in Canberra for the Waratah Women

The NSW Waratah Women battle it out and come away with a 24-13 victory against the ACT Brumbies.

Stunning backline plays and brutal forward runs helped the Waratahs take home a victory down in Canberra.

Strong performances from Fi Jones, Georgina Friedrichs, Maya Stewart and Caitlyn Halse contributed to a classy win.

Georgina Friedrichs made it known she was here to play, Friedrichs run over multiple Brumbies throughout the game and caused havoc in the backline setting up numerous tries. Including one allowing Maya Stewart to grab a double and keep her red hot try scoring form alive.

Caitlyn Halse had a dominate performance with the boot and scored her first try of her career.

The Women started off strong with consecutive phases leading Maya Stewart to fend off her defended and stroll over the line. Ella Ryan slots the conversion making it 7-0.

Penalties from the Tahs allowed the Brumbies to hit straight back. A well-maintained rolling maul and a conversion saw the score level to 7-7 after 12 minutes of play.

The Tahs were next to score through a quick blindside play. Ella Ryan with a show and go to cruise over the line, her conversion was unsuccessful. 12-7

After relentless pressure in the Brumbies half, the Tahs were unable to convert it to points. The Brumbies were than able to strike just before half-time with a penalty goal. Half time score 12-10.

To start off the second-half Georgina Friedrichs continued where she left off. She opened up the defence to put Maya Stuart in for another try pushing her career total to 22. The try was unconverted, score 17-10.

Another quick hit back from the Brumbies with a Penalty kick to keep them in close reach, score 17-13.

Eva Karpani made an immediate impact off the bench with barnstorming runs and strong defence and off the back of her winning a penalty, the Tahs struck.

A set move off the line out saw the ball travel through four hands to land in Caitlyn Halse, she used sheer pace to beat all defenders to push the game out of reach. Claudia Meltzer kicked the conversion to grab her first career points. The finishing score for the night, 24-17.

The Waratahs now turn their attention to the grand final rematch against the Fijian Drua at Concord Oval next Saturday the 8th of April!
