Young gun Max Jorgensen’s World Cup dream is over after it was confirmed he had suffered a fractured fibula.

Jorgensen suffered the injury during training in the lead-up to the Wales game.

The 19-year-old went for scans on Wednesday, which confirmed the fracture.

“Firstly we’re all feeling for Max. He’s a good young man who has a massive future ahead of him in the gold jersey," Wallabies coach Eddie Jones said in a statement.

“He’s worked really hard to come back from a serious knee injury and was training exceptionally well to put his hand up for selection.

“We wish him a speedy and successful recovery and look forward to seeing him out on the field as soon as possible.”

Jorgensen had only recently returned from an MCL injury which ended his Super Rugby season early.

It adds to the growing casualty ward, with Taniela Tupou (hamstring) and Will Skelton (calf) out of the match against Wales.

The Wallabies will likely look to the Barbarians program for a replacement, with over 15 Australians taking part in a tour against club sides in Europe.

Former Wallabies fullback Tom Wright is amongst the leading candidates, starring in their tour opener against Northampton.

Waratah Dylan Pietsch is another, having been involved with the Wallabies program for the Rugby Championship, joined in the Barbarians squad by Lachie Anderson.
