"Immensely (proud of this group). We've played three finals in a row and missed out on two so it's really pleasing for the boys to stick to it and put in a polished performance," captain Sam Dickson told Rugby.com.au
"We just wanted to stick to our game-plan and don't get individual, bring the heat in around physicality and keep calm, cool and collected and I think we did that really well."
The New Zealand women's team were equally dominant, crushing France.35-0 in the gold medal match, winning their third straight Series tournament
Tenika Willison and Jazmin Felix-Hotham recorded doubles as they cruised to victory.
“I’m extremely proud of my team,” Black Ferns Sevens captain Sarah Hirini said.
“Going back-to-back is pretty hard and to have to support over here, we love it and we’re glad we could put on a show.”
Australia finished fifth in the women's, winning both their matches on Sunday, while their male compatriots ended seventh after losing their only game on the final day.
The women's team have dropped 12 points behind New Zealand in the overall standings and are now second only on points differential ahead of the United States, who took bronze in Sydney with a 12-5 win over Ireland.
The men's side dropped one place to eighth.
New Zealand was the fifth different winner in as many men's tournaments this season and have increased their lead on the table from two to nine points.
Only the top four teams automatically qualify for next year's Olympics.
