NSW Waratahs coach Dan McKellar has named Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii in the midfield as he unveiled a new-look side to face the Hurricanes on Friday.
Suaalii was initially targeted as an outside back for the Waratahs, however, will line-up at outside centre as McKellar welcomes his star recruit make from a five-week injury.

“Joseph has trained really well over the past couple of weeks and has done a great job in rehab,” McKellar said.
“It has been a frustrating period for him, but he’s ready to go, and we’re excited to see him back on the field. Positionally, we want to see how he goes at 13.
“The initial plan was for him to play fullback, but given he’s been out for five weeks, we feel outside centre is the best spot for him this week.”
Suaalii partners Joey Walton in the centres, who has been named captain with Hugh Sinclair rested.
Walton becomes the third different captain used by the Waratahs in 2025.
“Joey has been a strong performer and a natural leader,” McKellar notes.
“He leads through his actions and communicates well with the group. It’s a proud moment for him and his family.”
Additionally, winger Archie Saunders has been named on the wing, with Triston Reilly (shoulder) ruled out whilst Max Jorgensen replaces a rested Andrew Kellaway.
Julian Heaven starts at hooker with Mahe Valianu (arm) and Dave Porecki (calf) on the sidelines whilst Miles Amatosero returns from a back injury.
Ethan Dobbins is in line for a debut via the bench, with Lalakai Foketi named to return from a groin injury.
“Against the Hurricanes, we anticipate a fast-paced and high-intensity contest,” McKellar added.
“That’s why we’ve gone with a 5-3 bench. Having Lalakai back fit and available gives us more options in the backline for the final stages of the game.”
