Wallabies legend Michael Hooper admits it would take extreme circumstances for the flanker to return to the Test arena.
Hooper is currently playing in Japan for Toyota Verblitz and whilst dogged questions about a AU/NZ appearance for the Lions tour, he made his position clear on a return to the gold jersey.
“There would need to be some pretty extraordinary circumstances, to be honest,” Hooper said on Stan's Inside Line. “I would have to be playing some great footy to be considered, and two, I retired from international rugby.
“The level of commitment to play at Test level is very, very high, and I am unsure if I have that level of commitment to put the body on the line and have the intent that you need to have to be a part of that series.”
New Zealand great Ma'a Nonu has joined RC Toulon in a surprising comeback, with the 42-year-old arriving as medical cover at the Top 14 side.
"Welcome back! Ma'a Nonu is back as a medical joker until the end of the season," Toulon announced on X, using the league's regulation that a short-term replacement can be called in for a player who is not available for at least three months.
Nonu, who earned 103 caps with the All Blacks and won the Rugby World Cup in 2011 and 2015, played in Toulon from 2015 to 2018 and during the 2020-21 season. The centre's previous club was San Diego Legion in Major League Rugby.

Japanese Rugby has issued a please explain after Chairman Kensuke Iwabuchi was suspended as Asia Rugby vice-president.
Asia Rugby said Monday that Iwabuchi, who was elected as one of the organisation's three vice presidents in November, was suspended from "any duties and responsibilities until the pending investigation is concluded...in line with Asia Rugby principles of equality, transparency and accountability."
“The JRFU is trying to confirm the circumstances and reasons why our chairman Kensuke Iwabuchi has been temporarily suspended from his position as Asia Rugby vice president, which was announced on February 24," the statement said.
"We have confirmed that he has not committed any act that goes against Asia Rugby's principles of equality, transparency and accountability, and that he is responding in accordance with the code of conduct.
