Queensland Reds to face Fijiana in pre-season trial

Fri, Feb 18, 2022, 2:12 AM

The Queensland Reds will this weekend take on Super W‘s newest squad, Fijiana, in a pre-season trial on Saturday, 19 Saturday, at Ballymore.

The match, which will kick-off at 3:00pm, is a CLOSED event with no spectators, however fans will be able to tune into a live stream of the match via the Reds.Rugby website.

Head coach Rama Chand has named a 25-woman squad for the match, with a mix of experienced and new players.

Capped Wallaroos Liz Patu, Kiri Lingman and Shannon Parry will lead the side in the forward pack, while 16-year-olds Skyla Adams and Malaela Su’a will form a new combination in the inside backs.

In the reserves, Wallaroo Evelyn Horomia will return to action following the birth of her son in late 2021, while Sarah Riordan will also return to Queensland colours.

“We’re looking forward to this weekend’s trial,” said Chand.

“Due to our distance from other Super W teams, trial games have been hard for us to arrange so we’ve been playing internal trials so far to prepare the squad for the season ahead.

“To provide the opportunity for the team to play against the Fijiana will give us a great chance to see where we are as a squad.

“We have put together a team for this match that has a mix of experience and youth, which is exciting as we continue to build combinations ahead of the 2022 season.

“While this is a closed event, we encourage everyone to tune into the live stream via our website and see our women in action.”
