The Aussie 7s Men fall to the Kiwis despite a strong first half performance

The final day of the men's tournament is underway as teams fight it out for the medals.

New Zealand, Great Britain, Argentina and Fiji will be hunting for gold as they face off in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Australia will take part in the 5th-8th place playoff as they look to improve from their 8th place finish in Rio.

19:00 - FIJI WIN GOLD

Fiji have backed up their Rio heroics, defeating New Zealand 27-12 in the final

Fiji got off to the perfect start through Meli Derenalagi inside the first two minutes.

The Kiwis woes were shortly compounded as they failed to clean up a loose ball on their line, allowing Sireli Maqala to score the easiest of tries.

They would recover and hit back via co-captain Scott Curry, however, Fiji had an answer as Jiuta Wainiqolo barged through two defenders just 90 seconds later.

Sione Molia would reduce the margin for the Kiwis on the siren, reducing the margin to seven points.

As the Kiwis pressed for victory, Fiji's defence remained stoic and held them out, forcing the turnover.

They would march into the Kiwis 22, eventually finding Asaeli Tuivuaka in the corner.

A late penalty to Waisea Nacuqu sealed the emotional win for the Fijians, who were brought to tears by their heroics.

18:30 - ARGENTINA CLAIM BRONZE IN THRILLER

Argentina have capped off their incredible tournament with bronze as they defeated Great Britain 17-12

Great Britain got off to a flyer, scoring with the first 20 seconds.

Argentina would hit straight back through Lautaro Bazan Velez and Marcos Moneta as they dream of bronze.

After some strong defence, GB would find a way to level it up, setting up the grandstand finish.

In the end, Los Pumas Sevens would find a way as they have for the majority of the tournament as Ignacio Mendy crossed to seal the medal.

18:00 - SOUTH AFRICA CLAIM FIFTH PLACE

South Africa has overcome the USA 28-7 to claim fifth position.

Justin Geduld capitalised on some sloppy play from the USA to open the scoring for the Blitzboks.

Whilst America hit back, Sakoyisa Makata dove over as the siren sounded to restore their lead.

In the end, South Africa was too strong as Kurt-Lee Arendse and Stedman Gans sealed the win.

17:30 - AUSTRALIA CRUISE TO VICTORY AGAINST CANADA

Australia has claimed 7th place as they easily defeated Canada 26-7.

The Aussies started strong and continued their momentum throughout the game, scoring two second-half tries to seal the win.

15:45 - WHO WILL BE REFEREEING THE FINAL?

Whilst Australia won't be contesting for medals, there will still be an Aussie presence in the final with Damon Murphy appointed as referee.

Murphy will be joined by fellow Australian Jordan Way, with Way serving as an assistant.

13:00 - WHO ARE IN THE GOLD MEDAL MATCH IN TOKYO OLYMPICS RUGBY SEVENS?

Fiji will face New Zealand in the gold medal match after the two Sevens powerhouses booked their place in the Final.

New Zealand will be looking to make up for their Rio disappointments after beating Great Britain 29-7.

They will face Fiji in the final, who will get the chance to defend their gold medal after defeating Argentina 26-14.

Argentina and GB will face off for bronze, with Australia in the 7th-8th place playoff against Canada.

7th Place Play-off: Australia v Canada (17:30)

5th Place Play-off: USA v South Africa (18:00)

Bronze medal match: Argentina v Great Britain (18:30)

Gold medal match: Fiji v New Zealand (19:00)

12:30 - FIJI SECURE SPOT IN FINAL AGAINST NEW ZEALAND

Fiji will face New Zealand in the gold medal match after they overcame Argentina 26-14.

Sireli Maqala continued his strong tournament on debut, opening the scoring for Fiji, with Meli Derenalagi scoring their second minutes later.

Argentina would hit back and put them in front at the break as Marcos Moneta and Igancio Mendy looked to continue their dream run.

However, Fiji hit straight back through Jiuta Wainiqolo, with Semi Radradra extending the lead after coming off the bench.

12:00: NEW ZEALAND DOWN GREAT BRITAIN TO BOOK SPOT IN FINAL

New Zealand have advanced to the gold-medal match with a dominant 29-7 win over Great Britain

Co-captain Scott Curry opened the scoring for the Kiwis, who were eager to book their place in the gold medal match.

However, Dan Norton hit straight back for Great Britain as he looked to inspire them to victory.

The All Blacks Sevens answered straight back as Regan Ware crossed either side of the break.

Another try from the restart for Dylan Collier sealed the game and the win for New Zeland

11:30 - SOUTH AFRICA HOLD OFF AUSTRALIA

South Africa have held on for a 22-19 win over Australia.

Another slow start cost the Aussies as South Africa raced out to a 17-0 half-time lead.

Whilst the Aussies fought back and dominated the second half, it wasn't enough as South Africa advance to play USA for fifth

11:00 - USA DEFEAT CANADA AFTER THE SIREN

USA have pulled off an unbelievable 21-14 win over Canada, sealing the victory after the siren.

Carlin Isles showcased his pace once again to give America an early lead. However, Canada answered straight back before the break via Harry Jones.

With both teams battling it out, Martin Iosefo would be the man to edge the USA ahead as he burst through.

As time ticked down, Canada levelled the scores through Justin Douglas with 30 seconds remaining.

In the end, ill-discpline would cost Canada as Jones was yellow carded, with Isles taking advantage and scoring after the siren.

10:30 - KENYA CLAIM NINTH

Kenya have secured ninth place with a 24-0 win over Ireland

After a tense first five minutes, Johnstone Olindi broke the deadlock for Kenya as they opened the scoring.

They would extend the lead through Jacob Ojee after the break, with Willy Ambaka sealing the win

10:00 - JAPAN HOLD OFF BRAVE KOREA

Japan have claimed 11th place as they defeat Republic of Korea 31-19

Korea stunned the hosts early through Andre Jim Coquillard and Jeongmin Jang, however, Japan had an answer for everything they threw at them.

Coquillard would go from hero to zero as he was yellow carded before the break, allowing Ryota Kano to coast over and take a 19-12 half-time lead.

This allowed Japan to cruise home as captain Chihito Matsui extended the margin, which they held despite a yellow card

WHEN DO AUSTRALIA PLAY IN THE RUGBY SEVENS OLYMPIC GAMES?

The men's Sevens side will next play against South Africa in the 5th-8th placed playoff on Wednesday, July 28 at 11:30am (AEST)

This comes after they were defeated by Fiji 19-0 in the quarter-final.

If they win, they will play either Canada or USA to decided fifth or sixth.

Australia's 5th-8th playoff match against South Africa will be shown on 7Plus.

The contest is expected to get underway at 11:30 following Canada's clash with USA
