Reigning world player of the year Ardie Savea will captain the All Blacks in Rugby Championship Tests against Argentina, taking over from Scott Barrett who is recovering from a finger injury.

The All Blacks confirmed on Monday that Barrett will not be available for the Tests at Wellington on Saturday and Auckland on August 17 after having surgery on a finger injured in the recent Test against Fiji in San Diego.

Tickets for the 2024 Wallabies home Test season are available here.

Jordie Barrett and Codie Taylor have been named vice-captains.

In 2021, Savea led the All Blacks for the first time against Australia in Perth, becoming the All Blacks 70th Test captain.

The new Moana Pasifika signing also captained the All Blacks in their 100th Test against the Springboks.

New Zealand also has called in Blues five eighth Harry Plummer as cover while Stephen Perofeta recovers from a "minor niggle".

Assistant coach Jason Ryan said Plummer "has been really consistent with the Blues this year and he's really grown as a player.

"The boys have got a lot of confidence in him so he's come in and he's been seamless."

In further news, flanker Dalton Papali'i has re-signed with New Zealand Rugby and the Blues until the 2027 World Cup.

“I’m loving my footy right now at every level and home is where the heart is, so it was an easy decision to remain in New Zealand and run it back with the Blues next year,” he said.

“It’s great to have certainty about the next few years but right now my full focus is on the Rugby Championship and contributing to the All Blacks in 2024.”

“Dalton is a world class loose forward who brings physicality and work rate on both sides of the ball and can play multiple positions," All Blacks coach Scott Robertson added.

"He works hard every day in our environment and continues to grow as a leader and player. Having Dalton in New Zealand for the next three years is a great result.”
