Here's what makes the perfect Sevens Player

Australian Sevens legend Sharni Williams has confirmed her intentions to go to a third Olympics as she re-signs with the program for another 12 months.

Williams made her debut in the Wallaroos jersey against New Zealand in 2008 before making the switch to Sevens at the inaugural tournament in 2012.

"I'm still keeping pace with the emerging talent on the squad, and I credit Tom Carter, our Athletic Performance guru, with my ability to do so. I'm in the best shape of my life, and it's thanks to him," Williams said. "After careful consideration with my wife, Mel, I made the decision to pursue a spot in the team for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris and to renew my commitment to Rugby Australia.

"There's nothing like the feeling of standing on the podium, of representing your country on the world stage - who wouldn't want to chase that one last time?"

"Rugby Australia has been the backbone of my career for well over a decade now.

"I've moved back and forth between the XVs and the Sevens programs and learned different skill sets from both of them.

"For me, now, my journey forward is about inspiring that next generation of athletes, and I aim to do that through my actions. If you want to achieve something, you won't shy away from the hard work it will take to get you there. That ethos is something I affirm when I show up to training every day."

Williams co-captained the 2016 Australian team to Olympic gold alongside fellow legend Shannon Parry.

The 35-year-old helped Australia to a historic Triple Crown in 2022, named player of the match in the Rugby Sevens World Cup Final against New Zealand.

"The re-signing of the 'Matriarch' to the program is a massive boost for the squad leading into an Olympic year," Head Coach Tim Walsh added.

"Sharni brings experience, professionalism, and a world-class point of difference.

'Her laugh can be heard first thing on our 'Monday Ready' morning session, and her bright smile is infectious on our 'Friday Strong' afternoons.

"Sharni is a veteran with the energy of a rookie."
