The Brumbies and Crusaders have opted to rest a number of key players after their brutal finals ahead of Round One.

Coming off a Super Rugby Aotearoa win, Mitch Drummond and Will Jordan have both been rested, with regular captain Scott Barrett and Seve Reece reverting to the bench.

This allows centurion and hooker Cody Taylor to take the captaincy, becoming the 21st player in club history to reach triple figures.

"Codie is not only a world-class player, he's an empathetic leader who knows how to get the best out of those around him and sets high standards in our environment," coach Scott Robertson said.

"We're really excited for Codie and his family, it's a special milestone for a special player."

Mitch Dunshea comes into the locksa alongside Sam Whitelock, whilst Bryn Hall has been named to start this match and Ereatara Enari will have an opportunity from the bench in place of Drummond.

Sione Havili Talitui (concussion) has also been ruled out, replaced by Brendon O'Connor.

Double trouble for the Crusaders

As for the Brumbies, coach Dan McKellar has been forced into a number of changes as a result of injury, led by halfback Nic White.

White, who has played in every game in Super Rugby AU, has been replaced by Ryan Loergan, with Issak Fines-Leleiwasa returning to the bench.

The Wallabies halfback is joined on the sidelines by Caderyn Neville and Andy Muirhead after their breakout 2021 campaigns.

Nick Frost shifts to lock in Neville's place, allowing new recruit Henry Stowers to earn his starting debut for the club whilst Solomone Kata returns to the starting side.

Folau Fainga'a returns to the starting side in his 50th Super Rugby game.
