The Wallabies host South Africa in the second Test of the Flight Centre Rugby Championship at Optus Stadium in Perth.

Hunter Paisami's injury has left a major hole in the Wallabies' backline as they prepare for Argentina.

The inside centre was not included in the squad for the two-Test series and is in doubt for the rest of the Rugby Championship with a knee injury.

Tickets to 2024 Wallabies home Tests are available here.

With the likes of Samu Kerevi and Lalakai Foketi not included by Joe Schmidt, inside centre is wide open for a new face to make a name for themselves.

Rugby.com.au looks at the potential options from the key contenders to the long shot options.

Hamish Stewart

Stewart is the most likely option as the Western Force playmaker is lying in wait for his Wallabies debut.

The 26-year-old brings a real defensive edge to the midfield and would also allow Len Ikitau to turn his focus more towards marshalling the attack.

His combination with Ben Donaldson and Nic White is also a major factor along with spending time at flyhalf outside Tate McDermott during his time at the Reds.

Stewart is more than deserving of a Wallabies call-up after over 100 Super Rugby games for the Reds and Force

David Feliuai

Feliuai returns to the fold after departing the July series due to personal reasons.

The centre is probably the closest like-for-like replacement for Hunter Paisami with his bulldozing running style and physical defence.

The former Rebel turned Brumby can start his partnership with Noah Lolesio early if he’s called into the starting side, with the 27-year-old in red-hot form for Queensland club side Sunnybank.

Josh Flook

If Schmidt wants to go with an option he knows, Josh Flook could fill the void left by his Queensland teammate.

This would likely see Len Ikitau move to inside and Flook to outside, which he filled in valiantly after Paisami’s exit in Saturday’s defeat.

Flook’s versatility is a major positive, able to cover wing and the centres.

Noah Lolesio

Now for a real outside-the-box option. Before the pitchforks emerge, there is precedence behind the madness..

Lolesio actually played a bit of inside centre during the U20 World Championships, with Will Harrison and Ben Donaldson slotting in at ten.

In fact, Donaldson and Noah Lolesio combined at 10-12 against Argentina in their semi-final victory in a full-circle moment.

Yes, this is highly unlikely but could unlock both playmakers to take the line on more with the latter able to delegate.
