Rugby Australia and the Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies are proud to announce Tom Wright has committed his future to Australian Rugby until the end of 2025.

Wallaby number 939, Wright scored with his first touch in Test Rugby, crossing the try line in Brisbane where the Wallabies registered a 24-22 win against New Zealand in 2020.

He has since gone on to wear the gold jersey a further 22 times, scoring four tries, over the past three international seasons and is the incumbent fullback, having worn the 15 jersey in the side’s final Test of last year against Wales in Cardiff.

The 25-year-old has been in strong form for his club this year having made a permanent shift to fullback for the Brumbies in his fifth season at the club.

A product of St Joseph’s College in Sydney, Wright was a highly talented schoolboy, juggling both league and union as a junior and eventually taking a contract with NRL club, Manly Warringah Sea Eagles straight out of school.

He returned to the 15-player game in 2018 when he made the move to Canberra, making an instant impact at the Brumbies, where he registered 13 appearances in his first season, scoring three memorable tries that would be a glimpse of what was to come in ACT colours.

2020 was a breakthough year for the Clovelly Eagles junior with Wright crossing for nine tries in the Brumbies’ Super Rugby AU winning season before making his Test debut at Suncorp Stadium.

Wallabies and Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies fullback, Tom Wright said: “I’m happy to have my future sorted and to be staying in Canberra with the Brumbies.”

“Moving down from Sydney almost five years ago now, I had goals and aspirations that the Brumbies helped me achieve. A move to the Brumbies has been the best decision I’ve made and I’m grateful to the club, coaches and my teammates for their support and I’m excited for the next couple of weeks and the run to finals.

“The chance to represent Australia was and is the greatest honour for me as a player and like anyone, I’m doing everything I can to make sure I can continue to wear Wallaby gold and achieve success in that jersey.”

Wallabies head coach, Eddie Jones said: “Tom has the ability to be the world’s best fullback.”

“That’s the challenge for him, how much more can he find?”

Safeguard Global ACT Brumbies head coach, Stephen Larkham said: “We’re thrilled to have Wrighty re-sign with the club.”

“We all know what Wrighty can do on the field, but what people don’t see is his leadership around the group, his voice in training and in defence. That’s been a part of his game that has really impressed me.

“At 25, he’s only coming into his prime now but there’s no doubt he has world class attributes and with more and more consistency, can be a pillar of success for this club moving forward.”
