The Buildcorp Super W competition is edging closer to revealing its draw for 2022 and Buildcorp Wallaroos head coach Jay Tregonning is eager for the year ahead, as he works closely with players and staff to ensure the national competition gives his side the best chance to be successful come the Test season.
The competition is set to return to a home-and-away format next year, providing renewed impetus for the current Players of National Interest (PONI) squad, with every player ready to perform for their state sides.

“Working closely with the players the motivation levels are high within the squad and the players are firing for the year ahead,” Tregonning said.
“The certainty around the program has really lifted the spirits of the playing group who are now very keen to deliver in the upcoming Buildcorp Super W competition.
With the Buildcorp Super W slated to start in March next year, the new head coach is confident that the national competition will reach new heights in 2022, with the club sides working closely with national program to deliver a high-quality brand of rugby.
“The Buildcorp Super W franchises have really stepped up to the plate year on year in what they are doing in their programs.
“It’s great to see the players can now get back to playing competitively over an extended period of time and getting back to that gameplay environment which will closely replicate the test season.”
Tregonning made it clear that this year’s Buildcorp Super W will be vital to the success of the Buildcorp Wallaroos side.
“We’ve stressed to the team the importance of a quality Buildcorp Super W season and the impact that will have on the success of The Buildcorp Wallaroos moving forward,” he added.
“We focussed on how we as a national side can work to make our current PONI squad members better for their state sides, so we’ve focussed heavily on key game and position specific skills and techniques within that group.
“The interactions we’ve had with our playing group so far have been hugely positive, the intensity and enjoyment within their training has been outstanding.”
At the conclusion of the Buildcorp Super W, Tregonning is looking to widen the opportunities for his playing group with everything on the table for outstanding performers in that competition.
As the national side begins to widen the depth of their PONI squad, the prospect has now re-opened for more players to maybe don the green and gold ahead of next year’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
“We’ll be looking closely at players’ performances and contribution to their state team at training as well as their performance throughout the Buildcorp Super W competition. Form throughout the beginning of 2022 will be deciding factor in selection and involvement within our national squad.”
“Right now we have a squad of around 40 players and we are hoping we will be in a situation where we can add to that squad to develop the depth of the national side.”
“However before the test matches and the World Cup, we really want the focus to be on a highly competitive Buildcorp Super W season.
