“We are over the moon to secure the services of Matt for the upcoming season," Danny Lee, Head Coach and Director Of Rugby at San Diego Legion said.
"To have a highly experienced, International player of Matt’s caliber join the Legion is something very exciting.
"He is a world class player that will bring an incredible wealth of knowledge, competitive attitude and drive to succeed with him that will no doubt spread throughout the squad.
"We can’t wait to get the former MLR winner onboard."
As referenced, Giteau is very familiar with the American competition, winning the MLR with LA Giltinis in 2021.
Giteau made his Test debut just 48 days after his 20th birthday, replacing now RA Chairman Dan Herbert in their 32-31 loss against England at Twickenham in 2002.
He made his name at Super Rugby level with the ACT Brumbies, winning two Super Rugby premierships, whilst his two seasons with the Western Force are some of the club's more successful under the combined format.
The playmaker went on to play 103 Tests (6th all-time for Australia as of end-2017), and scoring 698 points (3rd all-time for Australia as of end-2017).
He brings a winning pedigree, claiming titles in Australia (Brumbies), France (Toulon) and Japan (Suntory) along with the USA.
