Welcome to Club Corner, our new weekly series where we cover the best of Australia’s Premier club competitions.

This series will cover the best that premier club rugby in every state has to offer. With competitions set to have a delayed start and a shortened season, many clubs will be desperate to hit the ground running and start their season off with a win.

Perth - WA Premier Grade Rd. 2

The West finally welcomed back premier grade rugby last week with a scintillating first round of quality rugby. 2019 saw Cottlesloe win their first premiership in a decade, and they showed themselves to be more than up for a title defence with a 44-12 away from home victory against Wanneroo. However, the first round also saw 2018 premiers Associates make a statement with 55-0 away-from-home drubbing of Arks, signalling themselves already as a dangerous outfit to watch.

Our Match of The Round:

Cottlesloe vs. Kalamunda - While the current premiers made light work of Wanneroo last week and will be favourites to win at home, they’ll be coming up against a Kalamunda side that held Perth Bayswater to a 24-24 draw away from home last week. Kalamunda have shown to be one of the more difficult sides to put away in the last few years, so the Gulls will have their work cut out in the first home game of the season.

Other Fixtures:

Perth Bayswater v Associates

Wanneroo v UWA

Coastal Cavaliers v Southern Lions

Palmyra v Wests Scarborough

Nedlands v Arks

Curtin Uni v Joondalup

Adelaide - Coopers Premier Grade Rd. 3

The Coopers Premier Grade hits round three this week, with the competition already serving up several surprises. After winning their first title in twenty years last year, Burnside have lost their first two games on the trot against Brighton and Old Collegians. With round three serving several potential clashes that may set teams on track for the top of the table, there is everything to play for.

Our Match Of The Round:

Elizabeth vs. Old Collegians - The Lizzies will be at home again following an impressive away win over the Barossa Rams, and look to be developing a lot of positive play and cohesion going into round three. However, this round they came up against heavyweights in the competition, Old Collegians, who shocked Burnside away from home last week.

Other Fixtures:

Onkaparinga v Port Adelaide

Woodville v Southern Suburbs

Barossa v Burnside

Adelaide University v Brighton

Darwin - Darwin First Grade Rd. 7

Finishing up at the Top End, the Darwin Premier Grade has enjoyed a much less interrupted season, with the teams currently heading into round seven of the competition. University Pirates currently have won five on the trot, with South Darwin their nearest competitors. This weekend will see a top of the table clash between the two sides at Darwin Rugby Park, in a fixture that will likely decide the eventual minor premier of the competition.

Fixtures:

University v South Darwin

Palmerston v Darwin

We hope you enjoy your club rugby this weekend, wherever you are!

ACT Rugby is set to kick off July 18 with NSW Rugby will kick off July 17. While Rugby in Victoria is currently postponed and Queensland Premier Rugby kicks off on August 1.
