Issak Fines-Leleiwasa has embraced a new position in the stacked Brumbies side with a wing spot proving an alternate solution to earn selection by Dan McKellar.

The scrum-half came off the bench as a winger in the final trial match before the Super Rugby AU season against the Western Force on 9 February at Viking Park, winning 29-28.

Fines-Leleiwasa scored a brilliant try after Noah Lolesio’s grubber kick was picked up and placed in a diving fashion in the corner.

“I found myself there in training a fair bit, probably enjoyed it a bit too much but nothing in real games.

It was a bit of a first time for me”, Fines-Leleiwasa said.

EMOTIONAL O’CONNOR: JOC announced interim Captain.

SPRINGBOKS CAPTAIN QUITS STORMERS: Kolisi on the move.

DEMPSEY DEPARTING: Dempsey to Glasgow Warriors after 2021 season.

The talented 25-year old has been blessed with exceptional pace that will prove to be unstoppable in the Super Rugby AU season, even if he is to come off the bench.

His desire to be in the squad along with his admiration for any “open space” on the rugby field, will be critical if he wishes to be in the squad that travels to Perth.

“If I’m in the 23 on the wing, I’ll take it”, Fines-Leleiwasa said.

The Plus500 Brumbies prepare to face off against a new look Western Force team who showcased exciting potential to be a serious contender for the title this season.

Reluctantly, Fines-Leleiwasa conceded that the Brumbies didn’t want to show off too many things that they have been working on during the pre-season but they understand from the trial match where they need to improve to secure a win on Friday night.

“A bit more ball movement and a few more tough carries from the big fellas, we’ll get the ball moving around the park”, Fines-Leleiwasa said.

The Brumbies take on the Western on Friday February 19 at HBF Park, kicking off at 9:55pm AEDT, LIVE on Stan SportBuy tickets here.
