“Shannon [Parry] is an inspirational leader on and off the field," coach Jay Tregonning said in a statement.
“Having not played in two years, the side has had to fit as much preparation into the year as possible and having so many test matches scheduled only reflects that.
“Shannon’s ability to lead a team through monumental matches has been on display time and time before; seeing this combined with an impressive Buildcorp Super W performance as captain for the Queensland Reds we believe she is a perfect fit for this role.
“I would also like to thank Grace [Hamilton] for her continued service to the Buildcorp Wallaroos and want to commend her on her ability, leading the side since 2019.
“She has been fantastic for the Wallaroos, her leadership experience, and her input to the leadership group will continue to be highly valued as we build towards the Rugby World Cup.”

Parry was honoured by the appointment, looking to lead the Wallaroos on home soil against Fijiana at Suncorp Stadium (May 6) before facing off with Japan at Bond University (May 10).
“It’s truly an honour to get the opportunity to return to the Buildcorp Wallaroos, let alone to have the chance to captain the team again," Parry added.
“While there are so many different faces within this team compared to when I last pulled on the Buildcorp Wallaroos jersey, I believe I can bring the same values and ideals that led to success in the past.
“I’m really excited for the team to assemble in a few days on the Gold Coast and I think with this current leadership group we can continue to establish a really strong culture within the squad.”
